The Magi Astrology of Val Kilmer: from Top Gun to man of "crushes"

For Val Kilmer promises of love turned to heartbreak

Hollywood star Val Kilmer was fabulous at acting, but his dating skills were problematic and he spent his last 20 years single. He also fell ill with throat cancer.

In his memoir “I’m your Huckleberry,” Kilmer said “Lord knows I’ve suffered heartache. But Daryl was by far the most painful of all.” The break-up left him devastated and he said he was still in love with her.

Kilmer said he cried every day for six months when Daryl Hannah broke up with him.

Having has a similar broken-hearted experience with a girlfriend when I was 22 years old, I felt Kilmer's words resonated with me: I decided to study Val's astrology in the hope that I could earn something about myself.

Magi Astrology Relationship Analysis

In Magi Astrology, a so-called Combined Alignment Chart – or CAC for short – will show the interaspects between the planets of two involved people. What's important are the angular relationships between the two sets of planets.

The interpretations of these interaspects are not based on astrological hearsay, but they are the result of extensive research conducted by the Magi Society.

Virtually all relationships will have a mixture of good and difficult interaspects, which are both “true” at the same time.

Life on earth is not necessarily easy and most couples will need to navigate such mixtures.

However, there are some aspects that imply serious caution even if the CAC analysis shows attraction and compatibility in other areas. You’re well advised to stay away from such relationships for the same reason that you’d refuse a restaurant meal consisting of lasagna mixed with the Swedish fermented herring.

Acting Super Star

Let’s first inspect the celestial mechanics of Val's movie stardom – and not surprisingly it’s easy to read once you understand a bit of Magi Astrology.

Val Kilmer made a career (Chiron) as a super famous (Jupiter trine Uranus) and charismatic (Chiron) he-man (Mars) actor (Pallas).

In his memoir “I’m your Huckleberry,” Kilmer writes that his ex-wife Joanne once told him that he "gets crushes on everything”. So that’s a clue – what in Val Kilmer’s astrological charts could constitute vulnerability to crushes? Falling in love here and there...

There are two alignments in his natal chart that I think could represent this - the first is the Venus-Vesta conjunction, which says he loved beauty and harmony (Venus and Vesta), that he might be a devoted (Vesta) lover (Venus) and that the could be infatuated (Venus) and friendly (Vesta).

It's clearly the "other side of the coin" to his super-famous tough guy actor persona.

The other alignment that could represent his crushes is found in his heliocentric chart, where Chiron is square Juno. This translates as frustrating (square) delusions (Juno) around marriage and committed relationships (Chiron). We will now see how these two alignments interact with some of his love interests, starting with Daryl Hannah.

His sensitive Venus-Vesta energy was squared by her Uranus and also by Chiron, resulting in not (square) marriage (Chiron) and frustrating fame and instability (Uranus). Furthermore, we find that his Saturn was conjunct her Juno and Jupiter. Saturn-Jupiter is never a good combination, even as a conjunction and basically says "move on". Saturn-Juno energies includes deception and self-deception. So we can see how "self-deception" would be detrimental in the crushes department.

Then in the heliocentric CAC we find more difficulties and also what could be a passionate and energetic attraction. Val's Saturn is quincunx her Earth, possibly leading to her feeling stifled and controlled. His Saturn is also square her Mercury, leading to misunderstandings and all sorts of communication problems. Meanwhile, there's strong sexual attraction created by his Juno and Chiron (which holds fantasies about marriage) being connected to her Mars and Venus, both are sexual planets. So in isolation that could have worked - but remember what I said about the lasagna and the fermented herring...

With Cher, it seems my guess that Val's Venus-Vesta conjunction is important holds true. Her Venus positively aspects the conjunction as well as his Chiron. The Venus-Chiron aspect is fabulous and this creates an amazing structure with his conjunction, even if his own Chiron Vesta aspect is too wide to be counted. Meanwhile, her Sun cannot be folded in positively into the Chiron alignment as the orb between the Sun and Chiron is way too wide at 5.1 degrees. The Sun should, however, be able to be folded into the alignment between her Venus and his Vesta and Venus, so I don't think it will be the clash that an opposition normally constitutes. (Standard orbs in Magi Astrology are 3 degrees, with one leg in a synchronization able to be extended to 4 degrees.)

However, her Saturn is clashing with his super-famous acting energy, including the dreaded Saturn-Jupiter clash. This is not good. The Uranus-Vesta alignment can represent famous (Uranus) friendship (Vesta), but also unstable (Uranus) devotion (Vesta).

Now I am beginning to feel sorry for Val. Cher's Saturn and Jupiter are lining up with his confusion around relationships square between Juno and Chiron. Her Jupiter gives him hope and Saturn rips it down.

The pair were married from 1988 to 1996 and we again see how Val's Venus-Vesta conjunction plays a significant role. The trines to Juno are helpful, resulting in both friendship and sexual attraction. However, her Vesta and Uranus can create problematic clashes against the conjunction. This would largely depend on the transits affecting the structure. As in, if a Saturn transit comes in to clash with her Juno, then the clash energy of Vesta and Uranus would hold sway for the duration. And yes, the marriage chart for 28 February 1988 again has strong and mixed energies, but the Saturn energies in the latitudes, contra Jupiter and parallel Venus, flips the equation into negative for me.

With Angelina Jolie, we see how her Chiron, Venus and Pallas (career as a female actor) interacts beautifully with Kilmer's Vesta-Venus conjunction - but again, we have a Saturn-Jupiter clash while her Jupiter create positive aspects. But remember, Saturn-Jupiter combinations are not good. The typically create false (Saturn) hope (Jupiter). There is also a problematic Saturn-Jupiter clash in the heliocentric CAC (not shown).

We again see positive and friendly energy from Cindy Crawford's chart vis-à-vis Kilmer's Venus-Vesta conjunction, but the fermented herring is delivered via the massive clash energy against his "male actor" constellation - and yes, the problematic energy from Crawford's chart includes the dreaded Saturn-Jupiter clash.

In the CAC between Kilmer and Barkin we again see how Kilmer's sensitive and wanting-to-connect energy created by his Venus-Vesta conjunction is positively engaged - in this case by her Sun and Vesta. Her Chiron also enters the dynamic, adding the potential for a deeper connection, perhaps even marriage.

However, we have a reciprocal Saturn-Moon square going on at the same time. They would both depress and limit each other emotionally. The fermented herring has arrived.

Yes, because I have now fully understood that the Saturn-Jupiter energies in a romantic CAC are not to be trifled with. In my case the energy was found in the heliocentric CAC, it was her Saturn being conjunct my Jupiter. And even though it was devastating at the time, I got away comparatively easy, much easier than Val Kilmer did.
